Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) Official Synopsis :
Star Trek Into Darkness – In 2009, which ruled by Hollywood science fiction films such as Avatar and the original District 9, J. J. Abrams was able to capture the attention of many film lovers the world when he returned to present a legendary franchise called Star Trek with a new touch. Although initially many get doubts, especially from loyal fans of the franchise – usually refer to themselves as Trekkies, with the script of the landing capitalize Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are very intelligent, able to deliver a presentation Abrams Star Trek story is quite fresh and modern for can reach a lot of new fans but still feels very familiar to be able to satisfy the old fans. The apparent success has opened the door of opportunity wide for Abrams to be able to explore further in dealing sequel movie franchise that had started since the year 1979.
If Star Trek will bring the audience to the beginning of the story of the adventures of two best friends, Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Spock, in the skies along with the vast starship Enterprise fillers such as Dr. Leonard McCoy, Pavel Chekov, Sulu Hikatu, Nyota Uhura and Montgomery Scott, Star Trek Into the Darkness seemed to be trying to further explore the relationship of friendship that exists between the two best friends who come from two different planets are – of course in addition to the story plot will provide an opportunity for the film to present a row of action scenes as it has been presented in the previous series. Get extra power of thought Damon Lindelof (Prometheus, 2012) in the ranks of the scriptwriter, Star Trek Into Darkness unfortunately comes with the fabric of the story is too simple to be presented in duration throughout the 133 minutes that make a lot of parts of this movie feels long-winded and flat in its telling .
Star Trek Into Darkness embark on a journey to tell the story about Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) is getting a demotion after he broke one of the rules of Starfleet – even if it is done in order to save one of the crew of the space shuttle Enterprise that he led. These events are slowly then make the connection with the friendship between Captain Kirk Commander Spock (Zachary Quinto) becomes tenuous. With a heart condition and thought that goes wavering, Captain Kirk once again get a warning from his mentor, Rear Admiral Christopher Pike (Bruce Greenwood), about how his behavior as a leader who sometimes are not suitable for everyday diaplikasan in his tenure. However, the decline positions is not the only major problem to be faced by Captain Kirk.
One of the Starfleet personnel, John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch), apparently committed treason against the organization and devise an act of suicide bombing to the Starfleet secret facility in London, England. Unfortunately, the act of suicide bombing is apparently just the beginning of the plan John Harrison – who has now fled to the Klingon Empire – to destroy Starfleet. With the organizational conditions that mess, Captain Kirk then get back his position to lead the Enterprise. And along with Commander Spock and the crew that he believed the row – plus a new officer who was able to capture his attention, Dr.. Carol Marcus (Alice Eve), Enterprise Captain Kirk embarked on a mission to track down John Harrison.
Despite the efforts of J. J. Abrams to present a story that presents more rows of action scenes compared to the previous series, Star Trek Into Darkness is basically a tangle of stories that explain more about the friendship between Captain Kirk Commander Spock – a thing that makes a lot of other supporting characters are forced should be “removed” by receiving a share of minimalist storytelling. Not a big deal, especially when Star Trek Into Darkness could color the story of friendship with a picture of the attitude of the leadership and sacrifices made by two characters figure in maintaining and defending their friends. Unfortunately, on the other hand, feels a bit excessive focus on the story of the friendship of Captain Kirk and Commander Spock seemed to make Abrams failed to develop a variety of other storytelling plot is presented in this film.
As mentioned previously, the presence of the story of the friendship between Captain Kirk and Commander Spock in the storytelling portion wider plot to make the existence of many supporters who were around Star Trek Into Darkness become less so essential presence – including the plot of the story about an attack by John Harrison against Starfleet character. This section seems only appropriate to ensure the existence of a row of action scenes in the movie storyline. Therefore, a story of pursuit by the Enterprise crew on the character of John Harrison eventually lasted long with some surprises are present in several intersections story. Abrams is able to work on the action side of the plot with good storytelling. However, the portion of the story is too familiar yet extended in such a way to make Star Trek Into Darkness often seem long-winded, tiresome and present no significant telling points.
Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto himself seems to have been able to let go of the shadows cast characters Captain Kirk and Commander Spock of the franchise’s previous series. Both Pine and Quinto managed to turn his character well and, most importantly, it looks so comfortable in playing these two iconic characters. Although the characterization of the role which tend to be flat, Benedict Cumberbatch able to attend steal the show in any presence in the story. Perhaps if Star Trek Into Darkness is able to provide a deeper excavation of the character of John Harrison, the appearance will be noticeably stronger Cumberbatch existence.
In addition to the character of Captain Kirk and Commander Spock, almost none of the characters who appear strong on storytelling presentations throughout Star Trek Into Darkness. See how the character Nyota Uhura (Zoe Saldana) who now serves only as the character “lover” in the story. As well as some other characters such as Dr. Leonard McCoy (Karl Urban), Pavel Chekov (Anton Yelchin), Hikatu Sulu (John Cho) and Montgomery Scott (Simon Pegg) who seem present merely as a plot device without ever being present in the portion of completely intact. Even the character of Dr.. Carol Marcus, played by Alice Eve may be presented only as an accessory to beautify the look of sheer visual story. Simply put, in matters of characterization, Star Trek Into Darkness failed to follow the lead of its predecessor – in terms of making every audience is able to feel attracted to each character that are present in the story, care about them and eventually establish an emotional bond to continue to follow the story.
Admittedly, J. J. Abrams get a remarkable achievement through Star Trek. Not only could convince the old fans of this franchise, but with an intelligent storyline, filled with a strong touch of comedy and a row of warm character, a reboot of the Star Trek version is able to reach millions of new fans. Unfortunately, Star Trek Into Darkness is less able to achieve the level of intelligence is achieved by its predecessor. Not bad, but the second series is likely too focused to bring the entertainment side rather than trying to look brilliant once impressive in its telling presentation with more emphasis on the visual display row action scenes. Failed to look special.
